"Weirdly enough, I really liked this one. It’s not quite as homophobic as it was initially understood to be; in fact, a lot of it is rather accurate. In the 70’s and 80’s there were a number of homosexual-targeting serial killers, marked by their tendency towards ‘overkill’. And police did go undercover in gay communities (for entrapment purposes), and sexually harassed gay/trans SWers. The biggest inaccuracy is the police department actually giving a damn enough about the gay community’s safety."
"Pride Day 29: This is a tough call cause it's the type of movie that gets kind of reclaimed by queer communities but it was very controversial with gay audiences in it's time and almost certainly still controversial. This is a film in which gay men at a kink bar are targeted by a serial killer and it is unapologetically drenched in gay kink culture. It's basically a slasher and as such it's maybe the only slasher I've ever seen with more male nudity than female nudity. This film has its issues but those are somewhat diminished if you read Al Pacino's character as a closeted gay man which I do. It's pretty heavily hinted imo. It helps that like most of the characters in this are gay, including maybe the most sympathetic character Ted. Overall, another controversial one but one that is explicitly gay and often homoerotic and I ended up liking it so there's that."
"I saw this movie about six months ago and I’m still in awe of it. There’s alot of criticism about this film due to its portrayal of the lgbtq community. But as a member of the lgbtq community this movie is spectacular, movies nowadays don’t hit like “cruising” because people are too afraid of offending people and to add, this flim is a slasher/horror flim and I never been one to like those type of movies and I done a lot of soul searching to find a movie like “cruising” and I haven’t found another movie quite like this one. There’s tons of imagery and symbolism throughout. The ending will indeed take your breath away because of its ambiguity. If anyone one of you knows a movie that has the same vibe as “cruising” let me know because I’m still searching for it and I am in the works of getting ahold of the book that this movie is based off from. I rate this movie a 9/10. Definitely considering watching again. FYI if you’re someone who gets offended easily this film is not for you. "
"I have always loved the Gerald Walker book, and the hardcore Punk music that is part of the soundtrack. The movie itself falls short, but is worth watching anyway."
