"The Yakuza is an underseen neo-noir gem. It’s Paul Schrader’s (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull) first script and stars a weathered Robert Mitchum and the ever-stoic Ken Takakura. Warner Brothers greenlit it as a martial arts/action movie but ended up with something that was more interested in the differing cultural ideas about duty, guilt and obligation than it was in slicing people up (though it does some of that too). 8/10"

"One of my favorite action movies. It should be taught in film school. The characters are great, the storytelling is interesting, and the action is both restrained and extraordinary. Highly recommend!"
