"Early Poitier that puts racism right in the face of the audience with an unflinching, for 1950, look at a black doctor trying to live his life. It is incredible, really, that this got made because a black man is the central heart and backbone of the film. Yes, there are some issues for modern audiences like making Poitier's character saint like to make him more palatable for white audience, rather like his character in The Defiant Ones."
