"I have seen so many adaptations of this film and yet, only recently, in April 2025, I finally watched the original movie that started all the horror adaptations that followed. I can just imagine when people saw Frederic March's slow transformation from Jekyll to Hyde, it must have been almost unimaginable and frightening , that same year the original Frankenstein film was also released at theaters. For film goers, the creature makeup was very new. For that reason, I am rating this film four stars. March's performances as a man split in half, having a good side and a terrible side with no boundaries to check behavior was excellent. The two actresses that played his love interests, Miriam Hopkins, and Rose Hobart, were very good at expressing their horror and strange ties to Jekyll or Hyde. I especially love the scene in which March plays the organ, which has been used by many villains in films. One of the few adaptations that I have seen that may come close to this original film is 'Mary Reilly,' starring John Malkovitch and Julia Roberts. (Of course, there are so many adaptations that I haven't seen.)"
