"This is a rewatch after a few years' gap. A really well-made Bollywood biopic spotlighting the life of Indian revolutionary Bhagat Singh, a key figure in the Indian independence movement in the 1920s and early 1930s. Even if it is more of a straight-up biopic, it does not shy away from showing the effects of colonialism and the way Indians were treated during that time period, and can be a difficult watch at times as a result too. Great direction, along with performances (especially by Ajay Devgn (in the title role of Bhagat Singh) and Sushant Singh (who played Sukhdev)), cinematography, production values, and score and songs (the latter 2 by A. R. Rahman). Rahman's take on the songs "Mera Rang De Basanti Chola" and "Sarfarosh Ki Tamanna" in particular really heighten the emotions. An solid companion piece to a film like RANG DE BASANTI and recommend for especially those who are interested in learning more about Bhagat Singh's life.
P.S.: Ajay Devgn (who had a cameo role as Ram Charan's (one of the 2 male leads') character's dad in a flashback sequence in RRR) won the award for Best Actor at the National Film Awards - the Indian equivalent of the Oscars - for his performance as Bhagat Singh in this film. A really well-deserved win IMO."
