"You know, I've recommended this movie many, many times but it occurs to me that I don't know if I've ever actually spoken about this movie or what makes it so special, and judging by how little interaction is on this, neither has anyone else. I was thinking about lost media today, or at least media that never made it to DVD and lost media is essentially what this movie is about. The Forbidden Room is essentially a restoration project, one of many by Guy Maddin. The movie is compiled of movies that have been lost, in the purest sense. Movies that no longer exist in the world reimagined by Guy Maddin. Some films literally existed in an incomplete or damaged way, some were recreated from whatever was left of the script, and some were completely gone with nothing to go off of but the title. The movie is essentially about celebrating a lost history of a film canon that could have been. Is that going to be enough for everyone? No. The film itself is very experimental and frequently hard to follow and I realize without the context just throwing this out is a set-up for disappointment but I really do recommend it. I found it extremely rewarding"
