"Thank you, @Aditya_7055 for letting me know about this incredibly acted film! Ranbir Kapoor is so dynamic and brilliant, and Deepika Padukone is emotionally compelling. For the first 35 to 4o minutes, the film seems like a usual romantic story, complete with perfect songs, and cute, funny dialogue. But the next part of the film, all the way to the closing scene, hit me like a ton of bricks! 🧱 The emotional impact of the story of a man trying to fight who he really is and deciding which path to take is played so humanely yet forcefully played by Ranbir. Bravo to everyone involved in this fantastic romantic drama!! The songs are wonderfully contemplative and joyful. Hindi audio."
"What an intense and quirky film this is! While far from perfect, this is a film that has a unique take on its portrayal of mental health (borderline personality disorder to be precise), simultaneously utilizing a non-linear narrative while also being about the universal nature of storytelling. Never have I seen a movie visualize emotions quite like this (even the filmmaking - particularly editing style - inhabits similar emotions), while also making the viewer feel the same way. Incredible editing, cinematography and most especially the 2 lead performances of Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor (the chemistry between the 2 is incredible). Ranbir Kapoor’s performance in particular blew me away, with the range of emotions on display being captivating to watch. Fantastic score by A.R. Rahman as well (the scene leading up to the incredible song “Agar Tum Saath Ho” made me unexpectedly emotional).
Your mileage will heavily vary (I massively dug this personally even with its imperfections), but it is worth seeing for those interested in something different from the norm, as well as those interested in an emotionally driven film. I have to applaud the director Imtiaz Ali for trying something new storytelling wise."
