" The anime series was about a ruthless killer named Light with a book that kills the person who’s name is entered in it.
With a agoraphobic detective named L who will stop at nothing to put an end to the murders.
The movie could have been better since it was from the director of You’re Next and the Guest.
Light in this movie is more sympathetic which just isn’t Light done right from the start.
Light having a love interest from the start. Also isn’t Light done right. Light only cared about himself in the series.
L is weird and also definitely not Asian or agoraphobic . He even chases Light at one point. Which is out of character.
Willem Defoe is at least awesome and well cast. As the voice of Ryuk."
"Thankfully not as scary as I was thinking, this movie actually had a fairly solid plot and asked all of us what we would do in a similar situation. With power comes responsibility!"

"If I could I'd rate this 🌟3.5/5🌟 but because I can't, I'll give it a 3. Here's the no bs, honest review of Death Note.
Here's the thing. It's not as bad as everyone says. It's not, like, *fantastic*, but it doesn't deserve the hate. I'm a die-hard Death Note (anime) fan, it was my first anime, it's nostalgic for me, I've binged it so many times I can basically recite the dialogue as it happens. After I finish this review I'm going to binge it again. I read reviews before watching the movie, I was curious, and when I saw it was generally poorly received, I thought, well, I'll watch it to see how bad it is for a laugh.
I was wrong to go in with that mindset. I was pleasantly surprised by this movie!
I agree with the reviews though, this movie strayed SO far from the original, even altering the Death Note itself. However, it's a movie targeted at a general, not-necessarily-anime-loving U.S. audience, as well as the anime-loving fan base. It took some liberties to make it its own. Understandable. If you had never watched Death Note before, this would be a really decently enjoyable movie.
The reasons I took away stars from a 5/5 include the following: poorly explained details, questionable acting, and the ending, which left much to be desired. Just, no resolution imo.
Acting wise, Mia seemed a little stale, but I think that was on purpose given the ending. Then, THEN, L. I have NO idea if it was intentional or not, but Stanfield portrayed L like a ******* 2 year old drinking a gallon of soda for the first time. Off the WALLS. The LOOK in his eyes. Like I get they kept the quirk of L eating sweets but my GOD. For being the best and most intelligent detective in the world, this guy sure is using his actions more than his words, and not a lot of intellect. But that's not acting, that's writing.
But yeah, didn't explain much at all, like Ryuk's intentions, or how L knew Kira needed a name and a face, for example. I could go on but I'm running out of room. "
