"Just watched both Martyrs films, back to back… hadn’t watched them in years. I knew I liked the original more, but did not realize just how poorly the remake stands up against the original. I’m left wondering how the screenwriter/director could mess up remaking a movie that had already provided the blueprint for an exciting, mysterious, dark, violent, and sad horror film? It’s like rebuilding the Eiffel Tower with cinder blocks."

"Martyrs is a work of art but one that is not for the faint of heart. A masterpiece in every sense of the word, nothing about the violence in this movie is explotative and every little moment will strike an emotional cord. Although if you enjoy the experience of watching this movie I advise looking for a therapist. A corner stone of the New French Extremists few things compare to Martyrs in scope, substance, style or severity."
