A young peasant maid working in the house of painter Johannes Vermeer becomes his talented assistant and the model for one of his most famous works.

"SPOILER ALERT, I WILL REVEAL PLOT POINTS. This is by far my favorite book to screen adaptation. They manage to invoke the painterly feel of the writing in the cinematography. Firth and Johansson masterfully portray the almost love affair and Scarlett really does look like the girl in the painting. If you are looking for fast paced sexy-sex.. this is not for you. But, if you want to see a beautifully realized exploration of the love and longing... Also the period costumes are spot-on."
