"I have always loved Shirley MacLaine's acting. I have seen her play street smart women, talented sharp-weighted, sharp tongued femme fatale roles and confident yet fragile women. But this movie is the first time I ever saw her play the role of an insecure cheap woman who has never known true love and is desperate to find it. She plays this role so well and you can feel the desperation in her every word and gesture. Frank Sinatra plays a man returning to his Midwest hometown after serving in the armed forces. Shirley accompanies him so that she can start a new life. Dean Martin plays a seedy gambler that crosses paths with Sinatra and Shirley. This is a really good storyline about what true love is and how people have people's own sense of worth can change how they receive that or give love. Each person in this story is insecure in some way and reacts differently to what they perceive as love. I was hooked on this movie from the first scene. What an emotional rollercoaster! 🎢 (I found this movie on the free streaming service TUBI in October 2024.)"
