"I heard this movie was the first to use the word "homosexual" and it is not JUST in passing. The entire movie revolves around gay individuals and blackmail that occurred based around the anti-gay laws of Britain at the time.
All the gay characters are sympathetic and interesting and the blackmailers are the overt villains and the bigots are all at very least shown as wrong. This movie is groundbreaking and absolutely crazy for its time.
An absolutely vital film for a comprehensive queer film history. And a pretty damn good one at that. It took a little bit to get going initially but it really picked up once it decided to clue me in on what exactly was happening and it really won me over with how clearly it presented its stance."
