In response to political pressure from Senator Lillian DeHaven, the U.S. Navy begins a program that would allow for the eventual integration of women into its combat services. The program begins with a single trial candidate, Lieutenant Jordan O'Neil, who is chosen specifically for her femininity. O'Neil enters the grueling Navy SEAL training program under the command of Master Chief John James Urgayle, who unfairly pushes O'Neil until her determination wins his respect.

"Please don't hate me because I believe that most viewers that opine on Thelma & Louise are wrong about T & L being empowering. I would just like to point out the fact that they've got the wrong movie, albeit the right director. G.I. Jane is the empowering movie, with a little social justice to boot. I would like to add that Ridley's use of D.H. Lawrence's poem resounds with both movie's female leads. T & L didn't drop dead, or ever feel sorry for themselves taking flight into cinematic history."
"This one does a great job of showing the grit and pure strength of a woman trying to fight her way to be the first female navy seal it’s dives into political issues in the system and all around just a great movie definitely one of my favorites "
