"Having rewatched this I was done. Lucas feeling unsecure makes sense and isnt surprising. I like his parents new job too. I even enjoyed the opening sequence of them visiting the other kingdom. It was well thought out. Except for when you finish the movie and know everything some of the beginning moments just dont add up.
Then things go downhill. The forced "cool spy moments" were cringey. I think kids would laugh after the repetition occurs. And I will admit the part of speed being slow in slow motion made me chuckle. That was its only redeeming quality. Roger's being completely oblivious to what everyone was saying was dumb but kind of funny.
However, all the gadgets make everything seem dumb. As if the people making the story were told make a spy movie and this is what they did. It has no other redeemable quality to save it. Sure the villains are decent and I like the Kings redemption, but everything else just fell flat. I'm not even sure kids will enjoy the final moments. The beginning sure but the action is dull and very repetitive at the end.
Lucas' hero moment does help but how the kids managed to fit all that gold on that tiny submarine is beyond me. Even kids say, "wait, did they get it all?" I know because I watched it with kids and even they don't believe that. It does barely make sense. I thought her throwing the rat though was clever. So there are parts that help make the story better but small parts can't make a great movie. That's why I disliked it, but as a continuation of a long running story it works somewhat. And the island ending was smart. "
