Making Apes: The Artists Who Changed Film

"I believe that anyone who is interested in the original Planet of the Apes film as well as the genre of sci-fi adventure should absolutely watch this documentary. It was a wonderful look back at all of the work of the original makeup artists, as well as everyone who contributed to the look of the apes, gorillas, and orangutans makeups and how they shaped the makeup industry as it stands today. There are interviews with the original team of makeup artists, and clips of the production. Watching this film made me respect these artists even more. There was tremendous difficulty in translating something onscreen that had never been tried, and in addition trying to gain respect in a movie industry that had mostly used artists only for monster films. I highly recommend watching this film."
