"I'm gonna be completely honest. I kind of love it. This movie made the last two worth seeing because the background information in those other two movies are worth it here.
Now don't get me wrong. It has a lot of problems. Mostly revolving around the musical numbers. They feel forced. The songs are good enough but you'll mostly just want to skip them. Outside the far longer than forever remix. That does feel a little forced but it works in the moment. It's very emotional, due to the context which is what helps redeem it. It's not one you're gonna listen to on repeat but storywise it's nice.
Speaking of story, unlike with previous movies, I enjoyed Scullys part here. It felt right and added some extra flair to the movie. Plus, the bog ghost hunter character was fun. Stupid but fun. I adored his ending and I honestly didn't expect it. I love when a movie can surprise me and this one managed to do that. Not sure how Derek managed to open the hatch at the end. But I'll overlook it because I enjoyed this movie.
The villain was unexpected yet intriguing. I liked the twist. His plan was well thought out & worth the wait.
Then his pit trap was also surprising. Well thought out too since the gate would close if it wasn't active, which explains Derek's choices. I had a problem with that at first but it is better now that I noticed that was why he did what he did.
Elise and Lucas do take more of a backseat in this story but it works. Which is weird since I do like both those characters, yet their role works for what they did. It also allowed for other characters to shine since they weren't pushing the kids can do everything angle.
Uberta is always annoying yet her few moments are bearable this time around. Roger also had good moments for what he did. Normally I hate when those two show up, since they're just played for comedy and overdone but this time they did good.
Overall, it was well balanced. Every character had a chance to shine and it is enjoyable."
