"I had high hopes because of the cast, but I just couldn’t get invested in it. I’ve have never been as disconnected from a main character as I was from Mai. For most of the movie she felt one dimensional, and they waited too long to create an emotional connection. The whole thing was rushed and badly done."
"It is something.
I think they tried to play into the punk angle a bit too much, but it's still fun. The beginning can drag on, especially since you know where it's headed, but it does establish things well. It's not until things go down that you're on the edge of your seat. But when that climax comes, man, are you ready & waiting for more. It may really pander to you at the beginning & play up everything just in an attempt to hook you on the story, & fails, but once you're near the end, you're fully invested.
The world is intriguing & realistic. You can see that happening with what they've set up. You'll be a tad confused tho by some things.
The characters are fun. The dog was certainly a surprise I didn't expect. I definitely didn't expect to enjoy him as much as I did. They seem to have depth even if its not completely fleshed out. Although, the mom character seems all over the place with personality.
The robot is truly the heart of the story. You can tell they wanted it to be the girl, but you care so much more for the robot. But this isn't in a Baymax from Big Hero Six way. You care for him because you watch him grow. Meanwhile, the main character is stubborn until the last possible second, making her less likable. In truth, you'll relate more to the robot who's trying to be loved & accepted more than the girl who craves destruction & revenge. She does learn better in the end, but that robot seals the deal.
The cast is also first class. I kept recognizing their voices & adoring who they ended up being. They were rather well casted for the roles they play. You won't notice it quite at first, but once the movie ends, you're happy with who they chose.
In the end, a neat action-packed story with thrilling animation & quite a few twists even I didn't see coming. It was a trip to be sure. Yet I don't see myself throwing it on every now & then. Maybe once in a blue moon or now that I'm reminiscing on the parts I like as I write this."
"This movie was okay, not completely up to my tastes but it is a cute show when watching with young kids.
The dialogue made me cringe almost every time with the mom as well as the dog being an annoying side character. I wasn’t a fan with the main character either but glad she did have some character development.
I do like having Jason Sudeikis, and John Krasinski in this, they have good voices. And David Cross has such a distinguishable voice so their performances were probably key to this whole film being green lighted."
"Honestly, hands down the best animated film I have seen since Moana came out. Incredible! Must watch! 🍿☺️"
