"I had this movie on my Tubi list a long time and finally watched, as I saw it was expiring on Tubi soon. (I see it's on Tubi until the end of March 2024, which is rapidly approaching...) This movie is based on the true story of Cindy Fralick, who had plans on becoming a firefighter for the Los Angeles County Fire Department. She was the first and only female, battling opposition along the way. I found her story and the various firefighter testing shown, along with how uncomfortable the men were, all quite interesting. Nancy McKeon (my favorite from "The Facts of Life") plays the lead role. This is an older movie, from 1986, so I recognized other actors such as Barry Corbin, Ed Lauter, and even more... I also recognized Vincent Irizarry, who has been on several soaps. I used to see him often on "All My Children"--he was such a devious character on this soap, and so when I first saw him show up in this movie I automatically assumed he'd be causing a lot of "TROUBLE"... This movie was better than I had anticipated and kept my full attention throughout. I had to give it 5βοΈs!"
"Thank you so much to @Carolyn1 for this awesome, meaningful recommendation!
Thereβs nothing more empowering than a woman doing what at the time was conventionally considered a manβs work better and then some. This narrative was powerfully felt and realized as Cindy navigated a world stacked against her in a male-dominated field. She is bright, blazing, and strong, a true beacon of hope for girls and women all around the world. Her approach is grace under pressure and resisting all of her naysayers or disbelievers and for that she is commendably fierce, gutsy, and resilient. Ultimately, a lovely, heartwarming tale that really reached me and made me think of all the power and potential within us just waiting to be unleashed. "
