“My plan was to die before the money ran out,” says 60-year-old penniless Manhattan socialite Frances Price, but things didn’t go as planned. Her husband Franklin has been dead for 12 years and with his vast inheritance gone, she cashes in the last of her possessions and resolves to live out her twilight days anonymously in a borrowed apartment in Paris, accompanied by her directionless son Malcolm and a cat named Small Frank—who may or may not embody the spirit of Frances’s dead husband.

"So sad and funny.. really beautiful movie"

"This is a contemplative, quiet film, sprinkled with magical realism and the kind of romantic poetry that spills behind jaded, gilded souls that once shown buoyant and whimsical. It has a genteel veneer and an elitist lilt; but, the common humanity found in the camaraderie of oddities here is very accessible to compassionate hearts. It may be far too grim and brooding for those looking for an American comedy. Others will find wrinkles of truth, bound in a dignified receding."
"I was not expecting greatness when I watched this movie, but greatness is what I got! French Exit takes you through a range of emotions and in a subtle way is laugh out loud funny. It’s not your typical American Drama/Comedy, which I found beautifully refreshing. French Exit left me feeling light melancholy. This film has found a comfortable home on my ‘Top 10’ list. I look forward to watching it again. #drama #comedy "
