"The remake of the Arnold S. film is slicker and more intense, but it lacks the fun tongue-in-cheek comedy of the original. I liked Colin Farrell as the lead, and Kate Beckinsale was a cool agent, but at times she was so driven to kill that it felt unreal. Sharon Stone nailed the role because of her sensuality and playful attitude as a manipulator. I missed that. For the story that is told, the action is great, but I didn't feel the same sorrow for Quaid for being hunted for knowledge he couldn't remember as I did with Arnold. This is a good film, but not a great one.

"Having just recently rewatched this movie, I now realize that most critics have unjustly crapped on this remake. I know that the original version with Arnold Schwarzenegger is so beloved that it may have soured most people on even thinking of remaking it, but this movie has a lot to offer. The vision of futuristic living is really ramped up in the design and CGI. Some great action sequences too. This version loses some of the campiness of the original, and takes itself a little too seriously, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. We get a great cast in this one as well... Colin Farrell, Jessica Biel, Kate Beckinsale, Bokeem Woodbine, and Bryan Cranston. All this and more makes this an underappreciated watch. 8.5/10"
