"I'm atraid this movie is truly a kids movie. As in your toddlers will laugh, but you'll hate every minute of it. It is a new story of Garfield you haven't seen before. I will admit to that. But the rest of it is absolutely repetitive, overplayed, cringey nonsense.
Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of clever jokes in the movie. Lines you don't quite expect, that completely throw you off guard, & can be pretty dang funny. Still, many of the jokes can be predicted, but they still have some rather great timing.
Now, don't get it twisted, I'm praising the zappy one-liners. At least some of them. Others can be bottom of the barrel quips that nobody needed to hear. However, a good chunk of them are well thought out & delivered exceptionally. It's everything else this movie considers funny that sucks.
The amount of times they overplay the same gag or joke is ridiculous. You get bored after the third reshowing of said joke, then incredibly annoyed & want to skip forward. I don't mean they have 1 long standing joke the whole movie. I mean what they consider "funny" is the same thing happening over & over again only with different reactions (sometimes the same reaction) to the same thing you've seen over a minute now.
For example, there is a moment when Garfield is flung into things. This goes on for a long time & doesn't stop anytime soon. They repeat what he's thrown into, with a few new things. Then they still keep going. The audience gets a laugh when it happens 3, maybe 4 times. This movie does it 10-12 times. . .not a joke. Countless moments like that happen throughout the film. If they're in a weird moment that they can show different angles or different faces from its characters they repeat it. And not once every ten minutes, it's a solid few minutes of just that same thing going on again & again. It's tiring even on your first viewing of the movie.
Basically put it on for young young kids, leave, & maybe enjoy the occasional overheard joke from a distance."
"Ironically, Snoop DOG starred. Even watched through most of the credits. Some people need to dress up like the dog henchmen for Halloween. I get it, yes, predictable, not the original, and sometimes cheesy - ok mostly cheesy. But hey, I laughed and I liked it. Not the best movie, sure, but worth to see when it’s out on streaming platforms. "
