"Amusing and cute coming of age story set in 2011. A day before his high school graduation a gay teenager finds out he been exposed to HIV and must take baseline tests every month all summer to learn his status. Amazing cast. The MC is played by Australian singer Troye Sivan, who’s absolutely adorable. Small parts by all stars Louis Gossett, Ellen Burstyn, Judy Greer. Viveik Kalra, who I loved in Blinded by the Light, and Brianne Tju as the best friend. All just top notch. Only 90 min. Good time spender. "

"i REALLY enjoyed this one. the main character says some incredibly nasty things, but that comes from the way the world treats him (and florida is getting worse for the queers every minute, thanks desantos /sarcasm). i still think he and his friend should absolutely have been fired ASAP.
it's very juno, but i liked it a lot more than juno (whose entire plot revolved around a girl peer pressured out of an abortion with false information--fetuses dont form the start of fingernails until the tenth week, which is over two months in). unlike juno, HIV exposure isn't something that can be terminated, and the final diagnosis of testing seropositive is lengthy. unlike pregnancy, it requires access to medications for the rest of your life, and for your partners to take things like PrEP or PEP.
i couldn't help but diagram out the potential endings, and i was correct. scared people with strict family-mandated life plans and little interface with community hide in closets unless they have no other choice. and they don't always survive out of the closet. and that's a big reason i loved caleb's grandma so much. every queer kid should have a person like her in their corner.
i have a good idea how the ambiguous ending plays out. check it out if you don't mind scared hurt mean angry teen protagonists."

"Singer Troye Sivan stars in this coming-of-age comedy about HIV/AIDS in the modern age. It’s funny and thoughtful. If you liked ‘Juno’ you’ll love this. "

"This movie is ******* AMAZING! The editing of the intro just set it up for greatness and I was absolutely enthralled by the story and the kinda/sorta cliffhanger at the end. Love this movie."
