"This was a masterful dark sports thriller film about a sport I never knew nothing about “ Rowing”. If you saw the movie “Whiplash” then that’s close to what your getting here. And I really enjoyed it from beginning to end. The lead actress performance was spot on and the soundtrack is very good which carried almost every scene. The way the film was shot was beautiful .You don’t have to be a fan of Rowing or sports to enjoy this film because it’s that good."

"Alex Dall (Isabelle Fuhrman) is a freshman rower who wants to be on the top varsity boat. There are films like Whiplash or Black Swan and The Novice has similarities but it really drives home not having natural ability or talent and overcoming with hours of grinding and sheer force of will. Dall’s grit may be pushing it too far but her determination is something to behold."
