"Cinematically this movie is beautiful. The acting is believable, the filming is eerie, and the effects were awesome! (Both with the stop motion and the practicals). It made for a good disturbing movie and overall I recommend this film. However, does the writing make complete sense? No. Did I have to watch an ending explained video after? Yes. The concept of the movie is very out there and I felt like it focused too much on being disturbing rather than sticking to a clear plot. Maybe that's just me, but that's how I felt. 3/5"
"It was a cool to see stop motion animation being used along with the live action. It's expensive and time consuming but looks really cool when done well....and it's done well here. Elle is an animator that is trying to finish her mother's movie after she falls ill. She comes across a little girl that tells her she has a better story and she starts working on that. It's broken into 3 nights with each part getting more disturbing. The little girl makes more demands about how the characters should look and the story starts to become real. This is a bit of a slow burn but it does pay it off for the most part. Alot of it is trippy amd surreal as we are not sure what she sees and what's in her head. I do wish they would have dialed that back a little bit and made things a bit clearer. The ending doesn't really hit the way it should after what we just witnessed and I really wish we could have seen the completed stop motion film she made at the end. Over all this was a solid horror with some very creepy elements that make it worth a watch. Please check out my podcast Mostly Low Budget Movies Reviews with Clarence for a full break down. ""Stopmotion" was truly a grotesque and brilliant horror film. I have not seen a horror film quite like it ever before. It was definitely strange and very odd, but it was all to add a sense of disorentation and heighten the overall fear factor. I adore the mash-up of stopmotion with reality in this film. I have always loved stopmotion and horror films, so this movie was exciting for me! I will admit that this particular movie will not resonate with some audiences, but if you enjoy stopmotion animation and are a horror fan this is definitely worth a watch!!! Be prepared to enter a whole new world of horrors!!!"
"that was really creepy. watching the main character spiral into the depths of her own delusions was cool and it was done really well in my opinion. i absolutely loved the stopmotion animation involved, and how everything just gets more disturbing as time goes on. definitely one of my favorite this year. "A movie that had everything to be incredible, but isn't. The make-up, the idea and the ambience are very interesting, but the director chose to focus on scenes where delirium and reality mix, forgetting to develop the characters and the story. The film becomes apathetic, with dialogues that don't contain much and everything lacking emotion."
