Summoned by his dying father, Miyagi returns to his homeland of Okinawa, with Daniel, after a 40-year exile. There he must confront Yukie, the love of his youth, and Sato, his former best friend turned vengeful rival. Sato is bent on a fight to the death, even if it means the destruction of their village. Daniel finds his own love in Yukia's niece, Kumiko, and his own enemy in Sato's nephew, the vicious Chozen. Now, far away from the tournaments, cheering crowds and safety of home, Daniel will face his greatest challenge ever when the cost of honor is life itself.

"I know everyone loves the classic, but I love this one. I can't stand the third and I rarely watch the first. But this I watch at least once a year. What can I say? I like real action. Not tournaments. Love it!
Its so good. I loce the new characters and this time the cillain actually feels like one. In the first he was just a bully, but this time hes an actual threat.
The only problem is, it's basically ignored by the third installment, and even by the new TV show Cobra Kai. The characters barely show up and despite everything that happened and how important Okinawa and Yuki were to Miyagi the show barely mentions it. This part deserves so much more. It was great and honestly still the best karate kid installment, for me at least. I will argue it is the best period though. Miyagi goes through troubles and Danny helps him, their relationship grows exponentially. Danny has problems that Miyagi helps him with. You get to see just how good Danny is at karate. The fighting is better, the stakes are higher, Miyagi is great, seeing his past is awesome, the girls are fun and show great chemistry, and it's just a great storyline. "
