"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ In the 70s even us non country fans knew who Tanya Tucker was. I was a little kid and fascinated by her success at such a young age and then later by her controversial relationship with Glen Campbell..which of course strikes even more gross now. So I was curious to watch this doc. It explores her life and career somewhat, however it’s more about her Brandi Carlile driven comeback. Tanya may have gone through some things and be a little (ok a lot) worse for the wear but she can still sing amazingly well. Brandi’s determination and excitement to be working with her idol is palpable but sad and frustrating in a way. It was clear her intent was to take total control without planning on wild child Tanya’s own agency. Regardless, they made a good if not a bit awkward team and it was nice to see Tanya’s new success thanks to Brandi. Worth a watch not just for these women’s fans but for being a fly on the wall observer of the creative process in action. "
"In my opinion, this film is a master class in the exploitation of Tanya Tucker by Brandi Carlisle. I watched closely and noted the times Tanya was overruled, ignored and infantalized. It made me sad, then it made me angry. I could almost feel the eye rolls and hear the "poor old dears" towards her.
It appeared to me that Brandi Carlisle, who I've never heard of, attached herself to one of the greatest female country singers of all time, solely for herself. To increase her relevance and up her image. It's a sad thing. "
