"I've been a fan of the original comic book, written by James O'Barr, for years. I've also been a fan of the 1994 movie that starred Brandon Lee, because it tried to stay true to the original story. There have been other movies in the Crow universe that failed miserably, but I don't count them because they were obvious money grabs. I've read a lot of reviews about this 2024 version of The Crow that basically trashed it. I will say that neither the 1994 or 2024 versions are perfect movies but each offers something better than the other. The original movie captured the look and overall vibe of the comic book. This 2024 version, starring Bill Skarsgård as Eric Draven, really amped up the gore and violence (YAY) and while I didn't like the choice of FKA twigs playing Shelly, I do think it conveyed their love story better. While the original antagonists were a gang of street thugs, this reimagining has a secret cabal of otherworldly emissaries who prey on innocent souls. Different but not necessarily better. So, I don't think that all the criticism that this movie has received is warranted. I had fun with it. 8.5/10"
"I’ve never read any of the books and didn’t try watching the first movie until six months ago when I saw the trailer for this. That was a CNF. Just too dated for me. So from just an action movie fan, this was a solid B. It’s a true comic book origin story, which drags on a bit too long early but is forgivable for the lovely, tragic love story by two hot looking MC’s. This director has always made beautiful looking movies that just don’t flow well. When you do get to the action in the back third, it’s realistically gory as all get out and very cool. Great emo doom soundtrack. No where near as bad as the reviews but I also get it if they screw up your fave somehow. "
"Cinematically gorgeous...the plot wasn't as clear as I'd hoped but really believed these two were star crossed lovers that were just innocents in the face of evil. I wished skaarsgard hadn't wasted so much time coming to terms with being a wraith..because it made for a lot nonsensical back and forth between worlds. But I thought it was a good watch."
