In 1983 Owl, North Dakota, the lives of three residents – elderly Horace, who spends his afternoons reminiscing in the local coffee shop; teenage Mitch, depressed backup quarterback star player-power-horse; and newly appointed high school English teacher Julia – along with those of the town's other residents, are upended by a historic whiteout blizzard.

"Back when I used to read, one of my favorite authors was Chuck Klosterman, a small town metal nerd from North Dakota. This is based on his only fiction book. The screenplay was written and directed by long time couple Hamish Linklater and Lily Rabe, the latter also the shining star. Knockout performance by Rabe, Ed Harris and even Vanessa Hudgens. Set two years before I graduated high school in a similar small town, where everyone had one of those coaches, this unflinchingly shines a light on the blatant sexism outright accepted at the time. Unique, funny, heartbreaking. A fave of the year. "
