"👎🏾 Okay, so the ACTING was thoroughly convincing & truly great. I love Steve Carell & like psychological thrillers, but in the end, this series “just didn’t do it for me” 🤷♀️ Plus I didn’t like the ending. — Sooooo, this was a “NO” for me & I’m not gonna recommend it because it just wasn’t a favorite FOR ME … Not bad, but I just didn’t care for the subject matter nor the “entirety” of it."
"The idea of a series focusing on a serial killer in therapy was intriguing to me and the show was very well done. Don’t expect an action packed show though; this series is very dialogue driven. Steve Carell gives a phenomenal performance as Dr. Alan Strauss. I love when a comedic actor shows off their dramatic acting chops, and he really knocked it out of the park with this one. His counterpart, Domhnall Gleeson, also hit the nail on the head with his performance as a serial killer struggling to curb his addiction to murder. He was stoic and awkward, which worked perfectly. The writing was pretty good too. There was a lot of Jewish culture and traditions mentioned which really added depth to Carell’s character. One writing choice I particularly enjoyed was visual comparison of Dr. Strauss’ fate to Auschwitz. Anytime it was becoming clear that the good doctor’s time was running out, he imagined himself in a camp, with the gas being turned on. It was haunting imagery, but it had the desired effect. My only critique of the series is that the ending was not satisfying and I’ll admit I was disappointed, but that might have been the point. I believe the message it was trying to get across is even when you try to be a good person, life just isn’t fair. Solid watch."
"Watched this because I was hard up for a new show. It’s well made, the acting is fantastic, I understand the well known lessons they’re trying to tell, but I just didn’t enjoy myself. Don’t know why I thought I could. Not into thrillers or the cult of serial killers. Also not sure if any ending would have been satisfactory but this one wasn’t it for me. If they did it so they could do a 2nd season, I’ll be irate. It’s my fault though. I’m sure others enjoy this kind of fare, it’s just not for me. "
"Disappointing. The show started with great promise but it fizzled out in the middle and ultimately had no endgame in mind. Domhnall Gleeson and Steve Carrell are giving their all in their performances but the show itself is very melodramatic and disingenuously funny. The finale only has two routes for where it can go and neither one is ultimately interesting. When the show finally ended, I kept asking myself what was the point?"
"OK, what do you get when you cross Misery and Silence of the Lambs with What About Bob? I am pretty sure that sentence has never been uttered before but the answer would have to be The Patient. This #Hulu original is intense and intriguing from start to finish. Was it great? I think that would be an overstatement. Was it worth watching? If you are looking for something intense and unique, then I would say definitely yes. "

"I kinda loved this show, it felt very fresh and I thought the acting was really good as well as the writing of the characters. Even the editing of scenes was so craftily done, to help create suspense without that annoying sense of "come on already!" because that interval scene is valuable in itself and blends in so well. I'm seriously impressed. Bingeworthy also if you're into that"
