Cheng Shaoshang, left behind by her parents who went off to war, faces challenges from a scheming aunt and struggles with estrangement from her family. Lacking love and security, she is cautious in choosing a marriage partner and meets three suitors: Ling Buyi, the emperor's adopted son; Yuan Shen, a talented figure from Bailu Mountain; and Lou Yao, an aristocrat. Despite a rocky path to love, Shaoshang remains steadfast. Her involvement with Ling Buyi leads them into a mystery surrounding his family and identity and together they confront a national crisis, growing through their experiences and upholding their ideals.

"A bit of a slow start (that never really becomes fast), as well as a long show, but it's magnificent storytelling! The strong and opposing personalities of the leads add to the intrigue - the disorderly and loud Shaoshang, and composed and quiet Buyi - as they're each easily lovable and sincere, you only want the best for them, and so you laugh and gasp and cry and smile as the rollercoaster of drama unfolds before you. Like I said at the beginning, this is overall, a slow watch but that doesn't take away from how each element of the story braids into the next and ultimately brings us to the end. Average rating of both seasons 8.5/10🌌"

"I finished watching this series and it was great. Love the Cheng family. The father was lovable. The ending was great. I love both main actors they did a wonderful job, Zhao Lu si is definitely a great actress. The Emperor was funny. Ohh the romantic lines between Buyi and Niao Niao were just beautiful, I believe for some corny but for me it was beautiful. Definitely one of my favorites along with Eternal Love, Yanxi Palace, and Scarlet Heart. These stories made me a fan of Chinese Drama specially the fantasy and historical dramas. "
