"I am enjoying this refreshing update to Spider-Man so much. It airs weekly on Disney Plus streaming. Hudson Thames plays the role of Spider-Man, a Brooklyn teen, who gains the power and strength of a spider. We all know how the story goes. Peter Parker attends the High School, while using his new found power for good. I was really worried that this update would sour my view of Spider-Man. My absolute favorite will always be the 1990s version with Christopher Daniel Barnes as Spider-Man. But I tip my hat to Hudson Thames who took over the character. There are a few characters that got a gender swap, and that is up to every viewer to decide if they like it or not. So far, I am fine with that. The layout of each episode actually looks like a comic book turning pages with each scene, and that is really cool. Kevin Feige is the creator of this series, and his fingerprints are all over this. Each episode is intelligent, dramatic, but still balanced with fun and humor. Season 2 is already on its way."
"Reading the comics that came before this series was really fun. I thought to myself "yeah I could get behind this totally." And then the first two episodes came out today. And I was so underwhelmed. Much of the voice acting to me sounds kind of wooden and phoned in a lot of the time. Especially with Spider-Man himself. I feel like the guy they cast as party in this iteration is trying to emulate Tom Holland a bit. Which is understandable, but it's also distracting. I really wish they would have kept this on the pages rather than on the screen. I think giving this series as it is so far three stars is overly generous. But I felt inclined to do so. 😆😆😆😆"
"I absolutely love how this show's animation style pays homage to the original *Spider-Man* comics, capturing their classic charm while delivering a fresh, modern aesthetic. Much like *Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse*, it boasts a unique and visually stunning animation style that sets it apart. Set in an alternate reality, this story mirrors the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Spider-Man, but with a compelling twist—his mentor isn’t Tony Stark, but Norman Osborn. This creative choice adds a fresh dynamic to the narrative, making it a must-watch for fans of the Spider-Man multiverse."
"I went into watching this show really not expecting anything from it, but I was really pleasantly surprised! I can really see/feel the effort and detail that the team that made this show (of course the same team who created X-Men 97 so you can trust them with this show). Visually it was cool with its comic book style in both the world and in transitions. Again, the detail and respect to the characters’ origins is great, and it didn’t feel like just another Marvel show. I’m watching it through a second time!"
