"This is an intense, suspenseful, at times brutal look into the lives of 8 desperate and completely different people who join what they believe is a simple game show. Each has been promised money to help them change their lives for the better. I will definitely not give you any spoilers here, but expect the unexpected. This is a show that will leave you in tears and in shock. Two episodes in particular are extremely hard to watch. I was very disappointed at the final episode, but perhaps the producers wanted to use the viewer into reality. Enter at your own risk! Warning: scenes of violence, blood. Korean audio."
"A drama mystery about a group of eight people from different walks of life who are given a chance to be on a unique show, as the pick their rooms a settle in, they find they are paid for the time much like the world outside!! Worth watching as much like Squid Game though without games of death, as that would end the show and the money they are given!!"
"Yea stylistically and plot dev wise nothing like squid game . Pretty thrilling imo but a warning to those that don’t like more graphic depictions of violence (again not like squid game/this was torture ) you might be turned off from it . To me anyways it was more arthouse drama with horror elements . ( was just interested in the fact that it is listed as a satirical drama , thriller , black comedy on Wikipedia) "
"This is a weird ass show. The beginning of the first episode had me wondering if I would even like it. It started out as a strange comedy but after that, it wasn't very comedic. The tone was odd and kept shifting. I'm pretty certain they based episode 7 off of A Clockwork Orange with the torture scenes. I know a couple people here on Likewise who would NOT like this. It's basically just people being absolutely despicable to fellow humans, for the sole purpose of making money. If you want to watch a show with people at their disgusting worst, you'll love this.
The synopsis is eight people who need money, some desperately, join a reality game show where they live in large warehouse type building with a huge open middle common area and stairs going up one side in a zigzag fashion. There are eight stories and one room on each floor. Each "contestant" will live on their own floor. Every day they participate in a show that has no production crew or management people. In fact, they never run into any other people outside of the eight in the show. They are there to make extreme amounts of money but there are rules, some that are given to them in a handbook and some that they have to figure out on their own. Everything challenges them to figure out what is expected of them. A few of them are selfish, greedy, and/or looney tunes. The concept was interesting but I wasn't blown away by how it unfolds. The ending was meh.
The best parts of the show were the sets and the acting. I especially loved wacko 8th Floor, played by Chun Woo-hee. Her performance was crazy perfection. A very far cry from her role in The Atypical Family! I am excited to see more of her work. Everyone else was great too. I just wish I liked the show more.
For some reason I thought the show was gonna have gore in it but there wasn't any. Just some psychological torture and a bunch of blood from all the fighting and getting hit with a bat. Also a burned body and a gunshot wound.
3/5*s"
"The concept was great. The underlying message was infuriating yet thought-provoking. There were a few things that didn't quite add up, but those could be chalked up to me nit-picking, which I tend to do. Overall, it was good. I plan to read the two Webtoons this was based off of. I might update my review after reading those. Sometimes the Webtoons versions of shows make more sense because there's less theatrics."
