"This is a fantastic animated series based on a Japanese graphic novel. Daniel Dae Kim and Ming-Na Wen head the voice cast in a great character driven science fiction series. The plot is about biomechanoids which bond to humans as a symbiote. The animation is incredibly clean, sharp, and vivid. Each episode surrounds how the cadet in this unique military force learns about their mechaniod, one another, and fight large creatures called shards. I enjoyed each exciting and action-packed episode. It looks like they will be a second season, since season 1 ends on a cliffhanger."
"An adaptation of a comic series of the same name, centering on the new cadets for bonding with mechs that are sent from space to battle an enemy of great destruction! Worth watching as a teen in the cleaning staff strives to become a pilot and then is given a chance through a twist of fate and teamwork!"
"I'm actually enjoying this.
The concept feels like Pacific Rim meets Thunderbirds. Except it leans harder towards Pacific Rim.
I enjoy the main characters. As in the main 4 cadets. Their stories make you want to continue. When they show themselves you feel better about watching.
The Robos are so neat & interesting but they are overshadowed completely & utterly. It's not like Transformers in that way. The focus of the show is the cadets (hence the title) & maybe see a touch of the robos here & there but not without their pilots being the progressors of the moment. (Which makes 1 reveal less impactful, won't spoil)
The animation is unique, it can be jarring at first but by the end you adore it. It's crisp & clean. The animation & style matches the overall essence of the story perfectly. (Again tho it can be jarring). Even when I pause moments & the screen goes darker I can still see the picture. It's shocking really.
However, some of the sideplots seem to be all over the place. Parts of it make it seem like they're trying to put character development in or force connections. Not all of the side plots are bad, though. They just seem a bit much & a bit rambunctious at times trying to juggle them.
For example, the character Clark seems to be all over the place, & anytime he's involved in a sideplot, you can't tell what'll happen. It's not that it's good at being unpredictable it's more like they can't decide what to do with it but they're continuing the story anyways. As in they thought, "Hey this'll be a good funny scene let's do it." Even if it doesn't mix well with the rest of the story later. This is a nitpicky complaint though. You'll either notice it or you won't & it doesn't affect the overall viewing experience. But no show is without fault.
A great show for kids. Tons of action, the monsters might be a tad scary for your little ones.. The characters are fun but it's not really a comedy. They'd watch this one for the action and cool looking aliens."
