"Do not follow this, please for the love of God. Timeouts have phased out in the community of psychology and child care. It preys on the innate fear of not being part if a community, it's conditioning. Telling the child that they will not be accepted if they do not show wanted behaviour and removing them from the social group without stimulus.
It's a longer road but regulation techniques and verbal teaching are now the go-tos and are effective.
