"I've always been a sucker for an isekai especially when it's good. This one fits the bill.
It was the first anime they showed us in my high school anime club and I was hooked. I bought the series soon after just to finish it. She knew it appealed to a large audience with its vast dipping into certain genres.
The ending leaves something to be desired but the rest is there. It's a complicated world that you find yourself falling into. The character Hatomi, our main girl, also reflects that well. It's very creative and fun. (Once you get past some of the older anime design choices you'll fall in love with the show too)
The movie is very good too. It's very different but still good. I like the spin each one takes yet still retains the core, (that also means retaining the bad ending as well). It's not horrid yet it just ends. There's not an ending it just kind of stops, but the show itself makes up for it.
I like the plotline & find Van & Hatomi to be very great protagonists. I like them both & their unique skills that help one another, as well as their relationship.
Plus it helps that their English voice actors also were the first couple for the first Barbie Movie, Barbie in a Nutcracker. It made me love both this show & that movie all the more.
It's got fantasy, sci-fi, action, adventure & more hiding within this one show. For an older anime, it can entertain well. It's not quite to the refinement or comedy our today shows possess but I do recommend it still.
I love the way the show slowly progresses but it does make it a tad tricky to rewatch. Granted it hasn't stopped me yet and I've lost count how many times I've put this show in time after time. Definitely enough to hate the way the DVD sets up the show with only 3 to 4 episodes per disc, but that's not a show critique.
I do recommend it for everyone. It's got so much in it from Guymecas to straight magic, you'll find something to hook you."
