"Although I haven't seen all of the episodes of each season, I watched one episode on Paramount Plus called: America's Hidden Stories: The Black Wild wild West. As I assumed, it was very hard on me emotionally to watch. During the first 10 minutes of the episode, you realize how much erasure of people, and important black figures of the Wild West happened to U.S. History. One in Four cowboys (that term actually being a derogatory one as I found out) were black, which tells you a lot about what the population of the countryside looked like in the 1800s: full of free black families, trying to find a new home out in the west, Montana, and the Indian territory that became Oklahoma, Kansas, etc., and making a life there. Some were ranchers, school teachers, deputy marshalls, stagecoach drivers, postal workers. It was a great education for me, but, as I mentioned, hard to watch. However, I greatly appreciated hearing just a few of the many stories that have been hidden for well over a century."
