"I can’t remember the last time I saw an anime I really, REALLY wanted to like more than this one. It has such a creative premise and misses more shots than a blind man at an archery range; they have SEVEN instantly interesting characters, but only two of them actually do anything, and the magician kid is the worst missed opportunity of all. The point of having an illusionist character in a world of actual magic could be its own series altogether, but we never learn anything about him (or anyone else) beyond their surface level. It’d be like watching Death Note and, instead of Light making all these plans, we’d just see the end results and they’d shrug and go “well, he’s a genius” and that’s it. The show only got worse after I fell out of love for it, and I wish I could just rescue this show from its awful writing and see it with a creator who cared about these ideas. "
"I'm kind of in the middle of this one. The concept was really interesting and the mix of modern technology in a high fantasy setting was an interesting juxtaposition, but I feel that this anime should have spent the entire first season focusing at least one whole episode on each of the main characters so we have more of an understanding about each of them. But the whole show felt a bit rushed and with a second season likely, it feels like even more of a missed opportunity to do that very thing. Still decent enough and if you like high-fantasy anime then you will still get something out of it."
