"Final: 4.5/5*s
I have only watched the first episode of eight in the first and only season, seeing as how Netdix, of course, canceled it because it wasn't a multi-million dollar hit. I swear, I hate them, and yet I like too many things on it to cancel my subscription, which makes me disappointed in myself, that I continue to give them my money.
Back to the show, I really loved what I saw in only one episode. I don't understand the hate I've seen from some online reviewers. Perhaps my opinion will change as I continue to watch more episodes. So far, there have been so many things present in this show that draw me to it. I love the late 1800s to early 1900s London. I love mystical and supernatural mysteries. I like the street urchins and their friendship/family and trying to survive in such a terrible time for orphans. I love Holmes and Watson. There are some things that are much different than you would think. For instance, Watson seems to be a real jerk so far, which I'm not used to. I haven't seen Sherlock yet so I can't say anything about his character. The way MOST people speak feels true to the period but there are also a lot of modern-ish words and phrases used that are out of character for anyone to say during that time. Probably to make younger viewers more interested. I don't love it but, strangely I don't hate it either. When things like that happen in other shows or movies, I usually quit watching. I like anything historical to remain true to its time. Which is why I can't stand Bridgerton. Anyway, I'm surprised that it hasn't taken me out of the story. Even though it doesn't bother me much, I still need to take away one star for it. I will watch the rest of the series and continue with my review and perhaps change the stars I gave. Until then, I happily give this show 4/5*s.
Please see my addendums in the replies section for additional reviews on the rest of the episodes and final, overall opinion and stars."
"i can’t make up my mind about the show. i like it, but at the same time there is just so much going on all the time. it’s kind of a weird combination of the vampire diaries and sherlock holmes. i think i liked, and i would watch a second season, but i would understand if it didn’t get renewed"
"Loved it! Sorry it’s been cancelled but so happy they gave us a final episode that ties many things up nicely. "
