Abandoned pregnant and penniless on the teeming streets of London, 16-year-old Amber St. Clare manages, by using her wits, beauty, and courage, to climb to the highest position a woman could achieve in Restoration England—that of favorite mistress of the Merry Monarch, Charles II. From whores and highwaymen to courtiers and noblemen, from events such as the Great Plague and the Fire of London to the intimate passions of ordinary—and extraordinary—men and women, Amber experiences it all. But throughout her trials and escapades, she remains, in her heart, true to the one man she really loves, the one man she can never have. Frequently compared to Gone with the Wind, Forever Amber is the other great historical romance, outselling every other American novel of the 1940s—despite being banned in Boston for its sheer sexiness. A book to read and reread, this edition brings back to print an unforgettable romance and a timeless masterpiece.

"There were parts of this book I liked. This book was set in the 1600's, which I found intriguing. I liked the part about the black plague, it just fascinated me.

Overall, I didn't enjoy it. I didn't understand how a woman who supposedly loves a man could tell him so many times that she also hates him. Amber was such a petulant child throughout this book. Even though this is a historical romance, it should be labeled as a toxic historical romance.

This was about a harlot just living her life, and she went through many ups and downs.

This book also had a lot of old English in it, and it was hard to follow at times. I learned a few old English terms.

I appreciate the experience of reading this to some degree, but would not read again.

Happy reading"
"I gave this book a higher rating more for sentimental reasons as opposed to literary worth. I was probably a freshman in high school when I first read this book. My grandmother found out what I was reading and proceeded to tell me that she had to hide this book whilst reading it, as it was deemed "shocking" by her strict, moral parents. What better advertisement for a book?"

"Read this book trying to imagine what the 1600’s was like to the best of my ability’s and quite honestly I did enjoy the story overall, Amber character was well done I’ve never read a story that’s made me love and hate a character at the same time Amber is extremely beautiful and ambitious, she stops at nothing to get what she wants, she’s very selfish and naive and has always slept and plotted her way into having having lots of money by marrying gentleman of high status and living a life of luxury yet she’s never loved any of these men. The only man she has ever had feelings for is the one man she could never have. The story is charming and captivating and if you love historical romance fiction then look no further Forever amber is the perfect read for you. #historical #romance #fiction "
