In the seventh book in the Harry Hole series, Inspector Harry Hole is tested to the very limits of his sanity by a killer with a strange signature: a snowman. One night, after the year's first snowfall, a boy named Jonas wakes up and discovers that his mother has disappeared. Only one trace of her remains: a pink scarf, his Christmas gift to her, now worn by the snowman that inexplicably appeared in their yard earlier that day. Inspector Harry Hole suspects a link between the missing woman and a suspicious letter he's received. The case deepens when a pattern emerges: over the past decade, eleven women have vanished—all on the day of the first snow. But this is a killer who makes his own rules, and he'll break his pattern just to keep the game interesting, as he draws Harry ever closer into his twisted web.

"This was my third attempt at Nesbo, and I finally got one to stick. YAY. I really enjoyed this story, and it had a little more action sprinkled throughout than the other ones I tried. The killer in this book is eerie, and I was looking forward to finding out who it was. Unfortunately, it was really ******* obvious, and the red herrings didn't do much for me - but for once, it made perfectly logical sense. I just usually like to be surprised, but I'll accept being right one time. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the movie, and I'm glad I finished this one."
"This book took me so long.
Honestly, I would have rated this book a 4/5 when I was about halfway, then it just went downhill. I have read many reviews, seeing if I missed anything but I agree with almost everyone else when they say it just got too long. I’m all for a good plot twist and then they hint at someone and you’re completely wrong. I loved that about this book, until about 7 people were questioned and accused and they still never figured it out. I do know this is the seventh book of the Harry Hole series, I have not read others, I randomly came across this book as recommended but honestly I am glad that I read it. I did the 2/5, not because it was predictable because it wasn’t and the actual “scary/horror” parts were great. I rated it low because I did not understand or see a reason for the sexualization of the main character. Like there are affairs and cheating through the whole book, but it goes into intense detail when regarding Harry, and it is just quite unnecessary. Like why do I need to know he wants to **** his companion? He’s just a man, he wants to **** anything. The alcoholism didn’t really strike me, but again- it might be something from the past books in the series.

I will say, the movie is SO MUCH WORSE. Like horrible. I think it’s rated like 20% on rotten tomatoes. Anywho, I liked it but I wouldn’t recommend anyone to waste 600+ pages on a book I didn’t truly enjoy."

"Good serial killer mystery that can be a bit slow in places. If you are listening to the audio book version it can be a bit of a struggle to remember which character goes with what name because they are mostly Norwegian. I found it easy to figure out killer was before I was halfway through the book. With that said the ending is pretty intense & Harry Hole is one heck of a crazy & fascinating detective."
"CONS: Slow start, drags on a bit in a S. King’s IT kind of way for a bit. Like we get it, he’s got a drinking problem and likes to have sex with his ex wife

PRO: two point twist of an ending that really made it"

"Exciting and creepy crime fiction story. This is my first Harry Hole book and it won't be my last. The story was complex with some good twists. I was able to pull together a good guess at who was doing what, but I have to admit that I was second guessing myself as I continued through the pages."

"I don’t really have a specific favourite part , but I love how through the series he struggles with himself internally , so you’re not only reading a thriller mystery and trying to solve it going through, you’re also connecting with the story more because you have such a personal view of his mental state. The main character isn’t like usual “hero’s”, he’s more relatable. "
