“Bridgerton fans will like this one.” —Julia Quinn, #1 New York Times bestselling author The Regency Vows series that is “sure to delight Bridgerton fans” (USA TODAY) returns with this story about a viscount and his irascible new wife who hopes to chase her husband from their shared home so that she can finally get some peace and quiet—only to find that his company is not as onerous as she thought.Viscount Penvale has been working for years to buy back his ancestral home, Trethwick Abbey, from his estranged uncle. And so he’s thrilled when his uncle announces that he is ready to sell but with one major caveat—Penvale must marry his uncle’s ward, Jane Spencer. When the two meet in London, neither is terribly impressed. Penvale finds Jane headstrong and sharp-tongued. Jane finds him cold and aloof. Nevertheless, they agree to a marriage in name only and return to the estate. There, Jane enlists her housekeeper for a scheme: to stage a haunting so that Penvale will return to London, leaving her to do as she pleases at Trethwick Abbey. But Penvale is not as easily scared as his uncle and as their time together increases, Jane realizes that she might not mind her husband’s company all that much. With her trademark “arch sense of humor and a marvelously witty voice” (Entertainment Weekly), Martha Waters crafts another delightful romp for all historical romance fans.

"I really liked this book which I didn't think I would because the last book I read from the author I did not like since it was a little boring. I really enjoyed it and it was a fun read. I do wish to have made one change SPOILER!!!!
Instead of knowing that she was the one haunting I think Waters could have left it out at least until the middle of the book so the readers could also feel the shock/knowledge of knowing that she was trying to make him go away and it would have added a mystery element to the book. Also I think the end was a bit quickly tun through but not too bad. I recomend this book 6/10"
"I am particularly fond of the fact Jane notes that husbands are never the charming or romantic figures in novels. It is an oversight that Ms. Waters seems determined to remedy in her novels, and I applaud her for it. I was also quite amused by the ghost story that accompanies this romance."
"This book reminded me of why I like historical romance books and that I need to read more of them. It was so wholesome fun and an easy read. Our main characters, Penvale and Jane, were really interesting. They both agree to a marriage of convenience so they could buy a home that was supposed to come with Penvale's title but was withheld from him by his uncle. After Penvale and Jane get married, the plot gets crazy; to push Penvale away, Jane stages a plan to make him think the house is haunted and leave. It was a fun plot, but I kind of wish there had been a little more steam in this book.

The slow burn in this romance was perfect. The way they both developed a friendship and enjoyed their company was great. I loved that Jane loved to read and was always reading, and I also loved the bit where she tried to convince Penvale to get glasses because of his poor eyesight. The main and side characters were adorable like yall the glimpses of Diana and Jeremy convinced me that I needed to read their book because I am obsessed with them. I don't know why it's taken me this long to find out about this author, but I will be reading more of her books.

Tropes/Themes
- Marriage of Convenience
- Enemies to lovers
- Crazy haunted house plot
- Slow burn

Thank you, Atria Books for this arc for an honest review."
