An instant #1 New York Times bestseller! Shanghai is under siege in this “tightly paced” (School Library Journal, starred review) and searingly romantic sequel to These Violent Delights, which New York Times bestselling author Natasha Ngan calls “deliciously dark.”The year is 1927, and Shanghai teeters on the edge of revolution. After sacrificing her relationship with Roma to protect him from the blood feud, Juliette has been a girl on a mission. One wrong move, and her cousin will step in to usurp her place as the Scarlet Gang’s heir. The only way to save the boy she loves from the wrath of the Scarlets is to have him want her dead for murdering his best friend in cold blood. If Juliette were actually guilty of the crime Roma believes she committed, his rejection might sting less. Roma is still reeling from Marshall’s death, and his cousin Benedikt will barely speak to him. Roma knows it’s his fault for letting the ruthless Juliette back into his life, and he’s determined to set things right—even if that means killing the girl he hates and loves with equal measure. Then a new monstrous danger emerges in the city, and though secrets keep them apart, Juliette must secure Roma’s cooperation if they are to end this threat once and for all. Shanghai is already at a boiling point: The Nationalists are marching in, whispers of civil war brew louder every day, and gangster rule faces complete annihilation. Roma and Juliette must put aside their differences to combat monsters and politics, but they aren’t prepared for the biggest threat of all: protecting their hearts from each other.

"This is everything I could want in a sequel to the first book and more. The angst. The pining. The tears. I was hooked. I was a sobbing mess by the end of it. There really wasn’t a tale of more woe than of Juliet and her Romeo, but somehow? Chloe Gong found a way to make the timeless tale more heart wrenching. I cannot put into words how much I love this duology. Chloe Gong is truly a wordsmith. I swear, if Shakespeare had ever gotten the chance to read it, even he would be clapping and declaring a job well done. Bravo!! "
"She’s probably going to be one of my fav authors because this series is so good. I definitely have to read Foul Lady Fortune and Immortal Longings."

"“Our Violent Ends” is a heartfelt, romantic tragedy; my eyes are - quite literally - flooding in a pool of tears.
I love the books’ theme of romance, heartbreak, betrayal, and humour. Moreover, I love the LGBTQ+ representation.
As for the cover, it’s beautiful. Yet heartbreaking, as well, now knowing the symbolism behind it.

Constructive Criticism:
• A bit predictable, but not as predictable as the first book
• The author broke my heart...
**Contains a spoiler**
I know the novel is a re-telling on Romeo and Juliet and the dedication literally foreshadows the ending, but Marshall survived!! It’s not fair!! They deserved a long, life that they could spend with each other. They needed more time… 😭😭😭

Edit: Turns out there’s a freaking novella. I scream-cried for no reason. "
"Can’t believe I’m giving 5 stars when I didn’t really care about the main characters that much? Roma and Juliette are? Fine? I suppose? (Don’t get me wrong I liked the characters—especially Juliette—but the romance was just fine) But let me tell you what, the side characters and the subplot romance is That Good. I’m convinced the multiple chapters of Roma and Juliette waxing angst about “why they can’t be together but what if they dared to hope oh my” (it’s not their fault I just never liked Romeo and Juliet that much, I’m sorry Chloe"
