Her father is dead, her fiancé took her inheritance, and no one will employ her, despite years working for her watchmaker father. Indeed, the other London watchmakers seem frightened of her. Alone, poor, and at the end of her tether, India takes employment with the only person who'll accept her - an enigmatic and mysterious man from America. A man who possesses a strange watch that rejuvenates him when he's ill.Matthew Glass must find a particular watchmaker, but he won't tell India why any old one won't do. Nor will he tell her what he does back home, and how he can afford to stay in a house in one of London's best streets. So when she reads about an American outlaw known as the Dark Rider arriving in England, she suspects Mr. Glass is the fugitive. When danger comes to their door, she's certain of it. But if she notifies the authorities, she'll find herself unemployed and homeless again - and she will have betrayed the man who saved her life. With a cast of quirky characters, an intriguing mystery, and a dash of romance, THE WATCHMAKER'S DAUGHTER is the start of a thrilling new historical fantasy series from the author of the bestselling Ministry of Curiosities, Freak House, and Emily Chambers Spirit Medium books. Readers have likened The Watchmaker's Daughter to A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness but set in Victorian London, and books by Deanna Raybourn but with gaslamp fantasy.

"There is just something about this time frame and a high-spirited woman that makes my heart glow. I will warn you that this is very slow-pace and pretty much a setup for the series I'm guessing. India, our main character, was a treat to follow. In a man's world, she fought for everything and found the place she was meant to be.
Sadly the romance was just as slow as the plot. Although Mr. Glass and India tip-towing around each other was super hot. There was a lot of mystery to hand which kept me interested. The side characters grew on me as well. Willy was a trip and while she had many flaws it just made her more precious.
Sometimes the story was all over the place but I liked it and it kept me guessing the whole time. Also, there is a lot of character build here and since the plot is slow we miss out on a lot of magical possibilities. The end was left wide open so I'm hoping much more is revealed in book two."
"I will say the writing isn’t super “sophisticated.” I wouldn’t call this literature or anything. It’s primarily for entertainment and fun, and it is entertaining! The writing is a little clumsy and there are aspects that are clichéd and corny. But I’m still interested in reading the next in the series. "
