#1 NATIONAL BESTSELLER“The pages brim with tenderness and an appreciation for what we had and who we were. I could not have loved it more."—Ann Patchett“One of the most moving and intelligent time travel novels I have ever read. Exceptional."—Emily HenryWhat if you could take a vacation to your past? With her celebrated humor, insight, and heart, beloved New York Times bestseller Emma Straub offers her own twist on traditional time travel tropes and a different kind of love story. On the eve of her fortieth birthday, Alice’s life isn’t terrible. She likes her job, even if it isn’t exactly the one she expected. She’s happy with her apartment, her romantic status, and her independence, and she adores her lifelong best friend. But her father is ailing, and it feels to her as if something is missing. When she wakes up the next morning, she finds herself back in 1996, reliving her sixteenth birthday. But it isn’t just her adolescent body that shocks her, or seeing her high school crush—it’s her dad, the vital, charming, forty-something version of her father with whom she is reunited. Now armed with a new perspective on her own life and his, some past events take on new meaning. Is there anything that she would change if she could?

"On the fence about this book so I'm giving it a 3/5. Positive: the writing style was good, and for me that's the biggest factor, and if not for this I'd probably have given the book a 1. Negative: didn't care for the MC, felt the first 1/3 of the book was mostly pointless and didn't convey what (i feel) the author wanted it to, the comparisons to other time travel stories got annoying - minor issue, and the ending wasn't very good. I'm marking this as "liked" because i think if i had read a different book by the same author, i might've enjoyed it more, this one just didn't meet my expectations."
"Most time travel novels are about finding and keeping a romance but this book centered on 40 year old Alice and her dad, who is sick and in the hospital. She finds her self transported back to her 16 year old self after getting very drunk on her 40th birthday. Then she sets out trying to find out to prolong her dad’s life so she can get more time with him/be with the guy she thought she misses out on, etc. Loved this book and the perspective. Who hasn’t wished for more time when someone is dying?"
"Not my typical read. Some aspects were sweet. Overall I found it “okay”. "

"A great emotional journey of a book. I loved the portrayal of the father-daughter relationship. The main character felt real and grounded even with the fantastical parts of her life. The time travel was entertaining (and I don't usually enjoy time travel books) and the ending was quite moving. I'm also a sucker for stories that take place in nyc so that was a plus too."
"While some adore this book, I didn’t really connect to it. Rated it pretty solidly as a 2.75/5 just because it’s super modern and repetitive. "
