As one of the newly made elders in his small town, Shane finds himself taking on the role of caretaker for a large group of juvenile survivors. One who just happens to be Kelly Douglas—an out-of-his-league classmate—who, on any other day, would have never given Shane a second glance. "This book fills a gap in #postapocalyptic #fiction I've been dying to have filled. These are teenagers and kids who don't magically come upon a situation and have it fixed by the end of the book. Book one of a #series , N. W. Harris is a great author who takes into account that, while children are resilient, they won't keep their innocence or optimism in the middle of disaster and trauma. Definitely continuing onward in this series! #apocalyptic #children_characters #young_adult_fiction #survival #malepov "
"The book was well-written, and had some good elements in the story, but it was unoriginal, repetitive, a little juvenile, and entirely too easily resolved. I brought myself to finish it only because I owned it. I will not be continuing the series after seeing where the story is heading."
