Jason insists he is innocent, and Angela believes him. But when Kerry disappears, Angela is forced to take a closer look—at both the man she married and the women she chose not to believe. This much-anticipated follow-up to Burke’s Edgar-nominated The Ex asks how far a wife will go to protect the man she loves.

"I have mixed feelings on this book. The writing, suspense, and characters were good, but I am not thrilled about where the plot went. Honestly, I wish this book would have stuck to being an intense drama, and left out the plot twists. It was so close to being a good book for me, and now I just feel disenchanted because of the last bit of the book. This book had an opportunity to present a decent message, and completely failed. I just think that right now is not the time to say what The Wife says. I am also not saying what I feel outright so that I don't totally spoil the book for you.

That being said, everything leading up to it was amazing. The story is an addicting one, and it's something I would follow in real life. It was relevant (for the most part). I loved most of the book, but I'm still so frustrated by what happened."
"2.5* rounded down. I was fixated, but ultimately this was less twisty and clever than I would've liked, and it's a bit unfinished at the end. I love the exploration of "do you believe her" and what victimization looks like from different angles. The legal proceedings felt very authentic...possibly TOO detailed an authentic, which makes sense given Burke's background as a prosecutor and law professor. I kept wanting some of the legal details to have more relevance than they did. Also, I solved the twist well in advance of the reveal, which I'm not normally good at."

"Loved this book! I normally prefer not to read thriller, suspense but this book was such a quick enjoyable read. Alafair Burke is an interesting and creative writer, I enjoyed picking up little clues trying to decide if I thought the husband was guilty. It kept me guessing until the end. "
