Harlan Coben
The first thriller in the Mickey Bolitar series, now airing as an original series on Amazon Prime. Bestselling author and creator of the hit Netflix show Fool Me Once, Harlan Coben brings us a shocking pageturner about a grieving teenager obsessed by the disappearance of a missing girl. Mickey Bolitar's year can't get much worse. After witnessing his father's death and sending his mother to rehab, he's forced to live with his estranged uncle Myron and switch schools. Fortunately, he's met a great girl, Ashley, and it seems like things might finally be improving. But then Ashley vanishes. Mickey follows Ashley's trail into a seedy underworld that reveals that Ashley isn't who she claimed to be. And neither was Mickey's father. Soon Mickey learns about a conspiracy so shocking that it leaves him questioning everything about the life he thought he knew.

"I was very excited to hear that my favorite author was branching out to YA mystery novels. That meant two books in 1 year! Yay! :)

I have had this book for a while now, but have been so busy with work that I haven't been reading as much as I would like. However, I joined a Teachers As Readers book club at my school this year. When they asked for book suggestions I quickly suggested this title. I am always eager to encourage my friends, my family & anyone who will listen to read Harlan Coben's novels. I was thrilled when it was selected for our first book.

I have read almost all of Mr. Coben's novels (I need to get my hands on Seconds Away ASAP; in the meantime I'm going to start Stay Close this afternoon & hopefully finish Miracle Cure over the holiday, too). There are some I love, some I really like, and some that were disappointing. Not because of the quality or style of writing, but because of the plot; how the characters wound up at the end. Anyway, I really liked "Live Wire," when we find out about Myron's brother and meet Mickey. As I said, I was excited to find out Mickey would have his own adventures.

I was not disappointed by this book. It featured all of Mr. Coben's signatures: dry wit, action, suspense and twists. While this is "written for" young adults, it is certainly not solely for teenagers. It's a great read. While I was correct about some suspicions, others were way off; something I love about great mysteries."
