"Like the first book, a lot of magic and great descriptions of how this magic impacts the user and other people. This book goes more in-depth into the different gods and goddesses that reside in the world. I also wanted to point out that the second book switches between perspectives, so it’s still told in the first person but can change from chapter-to-chapter. I found that it was easier to understand another character’s view point and what leads them to make a decision but it makes it all the more frustrating when there’s miscommunication between the characters! In regards to the romance💕 there’s very little of it over the course of the story. It’s definitely implied and never forgotten about, but not a huge focal point of the story. So if you’re looking for an equally romantic fantasy book, I’m sorry to say that the romance piece is kinda placed on the back-burner. Overall, not a bad book! I definitely preferred the first one, but it was nice to see a beautifully closed out ending to the story🤭"
"DNF at 33% — this seemed to be a perfectly good story, but it’s not one I’m currently interested in. I didn’t read the synopsis at all and just started reading since I enjoyed the first book so much. If I’d thought about it at all though, I’d have known this story would be nothing like the first. The first book is all about a magic competition and tea magic, but the competition ends in the first book so alas, this is a different setup. It still had the writing style I enjoyed in the first, but again—just not a story I’m looking to read right now."
"I know that most people where disappointed with the conclusion of this duology...I however enjoyed being back in this world again...A Venom Dark & Sweet tored apart, all the competition aspects of the story which was built in A Magic Steeped in Poison and instead replaced it with court politics and warfare...Surprising I had a great time with this book ...But I have to admit that I enjoyed the last book better thus reducing a star...4 stars ⭐."
