I couldn't look away." - Kendare Blake, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Champion of FateEnemies-to-lovers doesn't get more high stakes than a witch and a witch hunter falling in love in bestselling author Kristen Ciccarelli's latest romantic fantasy. On the night Rune’s life changed forever, blood ran in the streets. Now, in the aftermath of a devastating revolution, witches have been diminished from powerful rulers to outcasts ruthlessly hunted due to their waning magic, and Rune must hide what she is.Spending her days pretending to be nothing more than a vapid young socialite, Rune spends her nights as the Crimson Moth, a witch vigilante who rescues her kind from being purged. When a rescue goes wrong, she decides to throw the witch hunters off her scent and gain the intel she desperately needs by courting the handsome Gideon Sharpe - a notorious and unforgiving witch hunter loyal to the revolution - who she can't help but find herself falling for.Gideon loathes the decadence and superficiality Rune represents, but when he learns the Crimson Moth has been using Rune’s merchant ships to smuggle renegade witches out of the republic, he inserts himself into her social circles by pretending to court her right back. He soon realizes that beneath her beauty and shallow façade, is someone fiercely intelligent and tender who feels like his perfect match. Except, what if she’s the very villain he’s been hunting?Kristen Ciccarelli’s Heartless Hunter is the thrilling start to The Crimson Moth duology, a romantic fantasy series where the only thing more treacherous than being a witch...is falling in love.“Enchanting and deeply romantic, Heartless Hunter drew me in with the first sentence and left me breathless by the last. A story that unfolds like a spell, and one that is destined to capture your heart.” - Rebecca Ross, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Divine Rivals

"My final review is 3.5 ⭐️s as I have both pros and cons. I was very interested from the start and the book kept me reading (pro). Some parts got a little repetitive and the characters could have been a little more complex (con). I enjoyed most of the characters overall (pro). I hate a love triangle (con). The ending is frustrating, but leaves room for the next book to start anew. The writing could have been deeper emotionally for me. I’m not sure if I’ll pick up the next book. "
"This book is written as upper YA but with characters that act more like adults than teens (which is kinda a pet peeve of mine). Definitely more romance than action and undoubtedly tragic. Only read if you want to feel sad and depressed at the end. It’s predictable but it still cuts deep even though you see it coming from a mile away. Will be reading the sequel Feb 2025."
"4.5 ⭐️ I thoroughly enjoyed this game of cat and mouse. Rune is one clever witch who has been keeping herself out of the snares of the blood guard and their commander, Gideon, for years. With their own motives at play, these two enemies decide to get close to each other, but their connection ignites a spark that neither saw coming. I was completely invested in these characters and that cliffhanger ending killed me. I can’t wait for the next book to be released."
"I grabbed this as my February BOTM read because it was the only thing that seemed remotely interesting. This is not my typical genre as I generally stay away from most fantasy-romance novels, but I am so glad I picked this one up. I love a good enemies to lovers/forbidden love trope and this novel didn’t disappoint, although I don’t think I’m alone in wishing our lovers didn’t end up complete enemies again at the end of this book. Hopefully things will circle back around in book two otherwise I am unsure if I would continue to be interested in this series. "
"This was very reminiscent of Serpent and Dove without all the brilliant banter. While I did enjoy myself there weren't enough differences between the two to warrant reading the sequel.
Normally I wouldn't compare them but it's difficult not to when they are so closely linked. A witch and a witch hunter fake dating/marriage and let's not forget blood magic. I also compared the characters at every turn. Very different in their own respect but Rune and Gideon could hold a candle to Louise and Reid.
Still, I did enjoy the story and the blood magic. I mean using one's monthlys to hide scars is genius and also badass for all womankind. However, I was a little confused about the absence of healing magic. The plot was a little predictable and I honestly couldn't get behind Gideon thinking it's okay to arrest children. Regardless of what happened to him.

"I just finished! The MMC & FMC (both having severe trauma in their pasts) had the exact same plan to seduce the other for information, but the plan workout for the worse. I was irked when she got her feelings hurt by him when she’s doing effing thing!! I knew there was “shadiness” happening on her side & that someone wasn’t going make, called it early on. It has a cliffhanger. "
