Rosaria Munda
"One of fantasy’s best series." —Booklist, starred reviewGame of Thrones meets Fourth Wing in a debut young adult fantasy that's full of rivalry, romance . . . and dragons.Annie and Lee were just children when a brutal revolution changed their world, giving everyone—even the lowborn—a chance to test into the governing class of dragonriders. Now they are both rising stars in the new regime, despite backgrounds that couldn't be more different. Annie's lowborn family was executed by dragonfire, while Lee's aristocratic family was murdered by revolutionaries. Growing up in the same orphanage forged their friendship, and seven years of training have made them rivals for the top position in the dragonriding fleet. But everything changes when survivors from the old regime surface, bent on reclaiming the city. With war on the horizon and his relationship with Annie changing fast, Lee must choose to kill the only family he has left or to betray everything he's come to believe in. And Annie must decide whether to protect the boy she loves . . . or step up to be the champion her city needs. From debut author Rosaria Munda comes a gripping adventure that calls into question which matters most: the family you were born into, or the one you've chosen.

"It's too frustrating to finish in one sitting but also too well done to put down! A must-read YA fantasy book, in my opinion. Unfortunately, putting teens in charge of your military is dumb enough to me as an adult that I tried to pretend they were older. But they were all damn believable as teenagers for at least the first half of the book. And it's a YA book so it would be weird if they were all much older... Despite being about dragon riders, this book actually isn't very dragon heavy, but it seems like the following book should gear up for more dragon heavy scenes. "
"Ooh. I came for the dragons and for a lot of this book it wasn't even giving me dragons like I was looking for (but not for the whole book. There were a few good dragon fights. Still, the dragons weren't characters or anything close). But. The characters and relationships and politics in this world are interesting and complex and I ended up having a good time with it for entirely different reasons than I expected. Like skip court intrigue, we are directly gambling with civilian's lives. The main MCs aren't like I like you but I'm popular and you're not (idk bear with me here), they're like I like you but your dad made me watch while he personally burned my entire family alive and when I told you about it you told me they must have deserved it (but it also makes sense why they're so attached to each other anyway somehow). So anyway, I enjoyed it on its own merit, definitely more than some fantasy I read back when I read fantasy, but when I look back will it stand out for me either? Maybe, maybe not. But I will be checking out other things Rosaria Munda decides to write. But it's probable I won't read the sequel (at least not soon) because I just have an innate aversion to continuing series for some reason."

"AMAZING dragon fights + Dark academia vibes!

This book was simply awesome with the relationships, the character development, and the dragons was 10/10. BUT, there lacked alot of motivation as to WHY Lee did what he did. His motives and drives weren't clear to me and I honestly didn't know why he went against his family AND his friend. He would be mad at Annie one minute and best friends the next. That drove me NUTS."
"If you loved the how to train your dragon movies you’ll love this book! Dragons, war, budding romance & greatly real characters development are strong components in this book!"
